From the blame game in Washington and Louisiana to the recovery efforts, I, as an average Joe Blow, can tell you that people are starting to get numb to Katrina's aftermath and everything that happened during the storm.
For starters, the blame game is starting to sound like everything else in the media…people are starting to think, "Who cares whose fault it was? Just get on with your business!" It's all sounding like politics, which is infinitely boring, unless you're someone who's into that sort of thing.
Secondly, people are starting to figure out that guess what! The Federal Government is not the babysitter of the states. Next topic…
Everyone has a feeling that the survivors are going to be fine now and so our attention is no longer necessary.
And besides…don’t you know that even while the American public was horrified at what happened in that city, it was all just entertainment and a way to feel good about their lives to them (because things could be worse…you could be living in New Orleans!)? It had everything: heroism, human suffering, great odds, and suspense…is Katrina going to rip the roof off the Superdome? Is a hero going to rise in that population of unfortunates and straighten out those looters and rapists? See what I mean? Better keep checking www.nola.com to see the next turn of events!
Is that right? No.
Is it true? Yes.
